Seed packets usually have far more seeds than anyone could use in a year but if you just leave them in a drawer they will loose their viability (a fancy phrase for the sadness known as; "Why did my seeds never sprout?") So, if you want your leftover seeds to stay fresh for years beyond their usual expectancy, tape the packet shut and place it in a plastic bag or plastic box in the refrigerator. You will dramatically increase their expected life span this way.
